IF YOUR WALLS COULD TALK:
KILZ® BRAND ROLLER REPORT UNCOVERS WHAT YOUR DÉCOR SAYS ABOUT YOU
Fifth Annual Survey Reveals What Your Décor Is Telling the Opposite Sex
LAS VEGAS – NATIONAL HARDWARE SHOW – (May 5, 2009) – Masterchem Industries today announced the results of its fifth annual KILZ® brand Roller Report: “If Your Walls Could Talk.” And talk they did. The report reveals surprising insights about how men and women perceive interior and exterior home décor and offers clues on how to woo your sweetheart with your home’s design.
The report, which surveyed more than 1,000 U.S. and Canadian homeowners, finds that while personal taste in home design differs between the sexes, men and women agree (62 and 63 percent, respectively) that interior design is a key indicator of their mate’s personality and maturity level. Men, take note; 39 percent of women are turned off by posters and sports memorabilia. And ladies, ditch the bright pink wall; 66 percent of men prefer women with a more neutral color palette.
“A person’s home décor offers insight into who they are and how they live their life,” says Lisa LaPorta, host and designer of HGTV’s Designed to Sell and Bang for Your Buck. “Thankfully, it’s easy to seem design-savvy by making quick updates to your home’s interior with inexpensive options that won’t break the bank.” When it comes to impressing your mate, forget about diamonds and designer gifts. You’re more likely to snag a date based on your decorating taste than with bling. In fact, a vast majority of men and women (88 and 85 percent, respectively) think home improvement projects are a practical investment given the current economy. And these DIY projects matter to your date now more than ever. Fifty-six percent of those surveyed agreed that, given the current economy, they’d prefer to eat in than go out.
“With more and more people choosing the less expensive option of dining in, your décor will be under more scrutiny than ever,” says LaPorta. “A few coats of paint can transform a room, so get moving before the walls start talking – because you’ll hear about it. Fifty-five percent of survey respondents said they’d tell a friend if they disliked their décor.”
